Seeing a lady walking in the rain late at night while covered in so much blood looks something straight out of a horror film. And perhaps for that reason, most of us would drive past her out of fear. Or maybe even take a few pictures and post it on the internet for a few moments of fame.

However, one brave cab driver did none of those.

Instead, he helped the injured and bleeding woman to get to the hospital on a rainy night for free.

It happened on May 29 at around 3am, in the Chinese city of Chengdu in Sichuan Province. Cab driver Wu Wenjun was driving along the highway when he sees a woman who was walking alone.

“I saw a woman walking barefoot on the Sandu Water Bridge,” Wu said. “It was raining at that time, and since it was late at night, I was driving fast, and I drove past her.”

But as he went by, something very concerning made Wu turn his vehicle around.

“I saw that her whole body—she was soaked, walking barefoot,” he stated.

The cab driver felt it was far too dangerous for a woman to be walking alone in a rainy night. So, Wu decided to pull over in front of her.

To his surprise, the woman turned out to be soaked in blood and horribly injured.

The taxi had a surveillance camera which recorded the whole interaction between the lady and the driver.

“Why are you covered in so much blood?” Wu asked as he looked back at her sitting in the back seat.

“Take me back home,” the woman said.

Wu insisted that they visit a nearby hospital, but the woman persists that she should just be driven home.

The cab driver then asked what happened to her to which she responded, “I had a fight with my boyfriend.”

“I’m going to take you to the hospital, you’re bleeding way too much,” Wu said. The woman continues to insist on driving home instead, but Wu wanted to do what’s best for her.

“No way, no way. I must take you to the hospital,” he replied and proceeded to drive. “I’m not kidding. I’m taking you to the hospital for free.”

Still, the woman stood by her decision, which made Wu raise his voice and says: “Look at you! You haven’t even seen how much blood you’re losing! I’m taking you to the number five hospital.” He then entered something onto his phone.

In China, schools and hospitals have numerical values in their names to identify their ranks. In this case, Wu was planning to send the woman to the fifth best hospital in the area.

The woman refuses him once again, and tells Wu that either he drives her home or she’ll do it herself.

“There’s no way, since you’ve got into my car, I will only take you to the hospital. You don’t have to say anything else,” Wu replied.

As soon as they arrive at the hospital, Wu made sure she received medical care.

“After about 10 minutes, I left the hospital,” Wu said.

The heroic cab driver left without telling the story to anyone, which just goes to show he pure his intentions were. All that mattered to him was that the lady to receive proper medical treatment.

Fortunately, an anonymous individual decided to share the security footage to the public and give Wu the recognition he deserves.

As of the moment, there are no recent updates about the state of the woman.

Let this act of selflessness and bravery serve as an inspiration and lesson to us all. Little acts like these make the world slightly a better place. It doesn’t matter who you are and where you are, we should always show a sense of humanity especially to those who are in need.
