Yellow Cab driver killed in horrifying crash by drunk driver

Vancouver, CANADA — Yellow Cab driver Sanehpal Singh Randhawa was involved in a horrifying car crash early Sunday morning, which took his life and injured 3 others.

According to reports, the 28-year-old was t-boned by someone driving a car2go who ran a red light in East Vancouver. He allegedly had 2 passengers in his vehicle.

Furthermore, Police suspect speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.

The Car2Go driver, a man in his 20s, remains in hospital in serious condition. Meanwhile, the taxi’s two passengers were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

An organization called Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) said that the incident is horrifying, disgusting and was absolutely, 100 percent preventable.

“It should never happen. Deaths are way down over the decades, but every time you hear of one of these, you know that it shouldn’t have happened,” Andy Murie, MADD Canada CEO said. “We’ve had over 30 years of messaging to say don’t do this, and yet when you read these stories, hear the police accounts, it really leaves you shaking your head going ‘did this really have to happen? Can’t people get the message to don’t do this?'”

Moreover, tributes are pouring in for the cab driver. President of Yellow Cab, Kulwant Sahota, says the taxi community is grieving for their loss.

“He’s an excellent driver, never had an issue, we’re so sad. I’ve had drivers, owners, everybody has been calling me since the morning,” he said.

“We’re grieving.”

One of Randhawa’s childhood friend, Harman Randhawa, was deeply saddened by the news of his friend’s passing.

“We came here for a better life, and we never expected this. When he stepped in the plane we never thought, like, you’ll never see 2020,” he said.

Additionally, he described Sanehpal as driven, and deeply focused on work.

In the meantime, he has a message for anyone thinking of getting behind the wheel after a few drinks.

“Please, please don’t drink and drive. You never know who’s in the next car if you hit somebody,” he said. “It’s not just about losing a licence, it’s about a life.”

The victim’s family, friends, and co-workers set up an online fundraiser in light of this tragedy. If you want to contribute and help his family, please donate through their GoFundMe page.
