Man, Arrested for Stealing Taxi (NY, USA)

New York City, USA — A man was arrested in Lower Manhattan for stealing a taxi cab and taking it for a downtown joyride early Sunday morning. The driver has left the taxi unattended, according to the reports.

Officers responded to a call from the 57-year old taxi cab driver. The car was stolen around 3:40 AM at Church and Murray Streets in Tribeca.

It gave the suspect, Mohammed Azeem, the chance to get on the car and drove off. Azeem’s joyride lasted for an hour. He managed to strike two other vehicles at a red light.

The police force apprehended the car thief after an hour at Laight Street and West Side Highway. They used the taxi’s GPS tracker to locate the car. The car was found less than a mile from where it was stolen.

There was a photo tweet of the cab driver and the officer who helped bring back his car.

Azeem was apprehended at the scene. He was charged with multiple cases that include grand larceny, traffic violation, reckless driving and criminal possession of stolen property.
